The Oakland Raiders (1-3) will take on the San Diego Chargers (2-2) Sunday at the O.co Coliseum. Kickoff has been moved to 8:35 p.m. to accommodate game two of the ALDS between the Oakland A’s and Detroit Tigers. The game is sure to be a close one, as both teams have strong and weak components.

Oakland’s quarterback Terrelle Pryor will return for Sunday’s game, after recovering from a concussion. This will be one advantage for the Raiders, after fill-in quarterback Matt Flynn’s less than satisfactory performance against the Washington Redskins last week.

What will be some other advantages for the Raiders? In last week’s game, Rashad Jennings took over much of Oakland’s offense. He caught eight passes for 71 yards and had 45 rushing yards. This performance has put Jennings at the front of Oakland’s rushing force. With running back Darren McFadden still suffering from a hamstring injury, can Rashad Jennings perform as well as he did against the Redskins?

Philip Rivers

A downfall for the Chargers that will help the Raiders? The Chargers give up a lot of yards every game, the most in the AFC. If Oakland’s offense can work with this weakness, we may see a victory from the Raiders.

However, the Chargers have some positive components, the main one being their quarterback Philip Rivers. He is the league’s second highest rated quarterback, and just in September, he threw 11 touchdowns. By way of comparison, Raiders quarterbacks Pryor and Flynn have combined for only 3 touchdowns this season. Rivers is becoming a stronger player with each game, and his performances get increasingly better.

What are some other challenges for Oakland? Their defense, for one. The Raiders’ defense can hold its own, but unfortunately they can’t seem to get the ball for their offense. They are one of only two teams who have yet to record an interception for the 2013 season.

With both teams having positive and negative issues, we can expect an interesting game this Sunday. As long as the Raiders can control San Diego’s Philip Rivers, they have all the potential to secure a win.
