The heart and soul of the team, the face of the franchise, the most well known athlete in Southern California, quarterback Philip Rivers is the leader of the San Diego Chargers. About to begin his 12th season with the Bolts, Rivers is one of the first players that comes to mind when people mention the San Diego Chargers. For an honor that is that prestigious, Rivers is one of the most hard working and deserving players on the team (hopefully deserving of a new contract). With one of the most fiery personalities on the team, Rivers will lead the way for the other 3 quarterbacks that are in the Bolts training camp this summer. The Chargers are expected to keep only two quarterbacks on their regular season roster which means two of the players will have to fine jobs elsewhere when the preseason comes to a close. While the Chargers will probably keep one of the camp arms on their practice squad, the business of football will split this group apart. With an interesting batch of signal callers in camp this season, here is a look at the quarterback position for the 2015 San Diego Chargers.
Starter: Philip Rivers

Only two touchdowns away from tying quarterback Dan Fouts for the franchise record of career touchdowns, Rivers is the biggest offensive threat on the team. An offense that lives and dies by the playmaking ability of Rivers, the Chargers are keeping their fingers crossed that their quarterback stays healthy throughout the season. One of the toughest and most durable players in the league, Rivers is a perfect example of a pocket passing quarterback. With promising and athletic players surrounding Rivers, there should be no reason why he isn’t in contention as a top 5 quarterback this season.
Backup: Kellen Clemens
His 5th league team and his 2nd year on the Chargers, Clemens has led a career as a well known NFL journeyman. A 10 year veteran in the league, Clemens is a player who has worked hard to master the playbook and improve his knowledge of the game. Considered to be a game manager at best, Clemens offers the Chargers reliability and protection of the football when he is called on the lead the offense.

Practice Squad: Brad Sorensen
Entering his 2nd year in the league, Southern Utah State alum Brad Sorensen was a practice squad member for the Chargers and the Tennessee Titans during the 2014 season. A native of California and drafted by the Chargers in the 7th round of the 2014 draft, Sorensen is still learning the style of NFL play and is a project player the Chargers are working on to improve.
Out on the street: Chase Rettig
Going undrafted out of Boston College, Rettig signed on with the Green Bay Packers as a camp arm during the 2014 preseason. A four year starter in college, Rettig joined the Chargers this year as he hopes to continue his short NFL career. Considered a warm body at camp, Rettig has to fight an uphill battle if he has any chance of staying on with the Chargers after the 2015 preseason.
